What does it mean to add a landlord as Additional Insured?
Some landlords require tenants to list them as an Additional Insured on their tenant insurance policy as a condition of the lease. This gives the landlord a named interest in the policy and ensures they receive notification if the policy is cancelled or lapses. It does not give the landlord access to your claims or coverage — it simply acknowledges their interest as a property owner.
APOLLO can accommodate this on tenant insurance policies.
Can I add my landlord when I first buy a policy?
Yes. If you know your landlord needs to be listed as Additional Insured before you purchase, you can include this request immediately after completing your purchase by contacting our team. Have the following ready:
Your new policy number (found in your confirmation email or the Customer Portal)
Your landlord's full legal name or company name
Your landlord's mailing address (required for the Certificate of Insurance)
Contact our team via Contact Us and we'll issue an updated Certificate of Insurance showing your landlord as Additional Insured.
What does the landlord actually receive?
Your landlord will be listed on your Certificate of Insurance (COI) — a document that confirms your policy is active, shows your coverage limits, and names them as an Additional Insured. This is the standard document landlords use to verify tenant insurance compliance.
The landlord does not receive a copy of your full policy, access to your claims history, or any financial benefit from your coverage. They are simply named as an interested party.
Sharing your Certificate of Insurance with your landlord
You can share your Certificate of Insurance directly from the Customer Portal at any time — you don't need to wait for the Additional Insured process if your landlord just needs to see proof of coverage.
If your landlord specifically requires to be named on the policy (not just shown a COI), that requires the Additional Insured request described above.
Is there a cost to add a landlord as Additional Insured?
There is no additional premium charge for listing your landlord as Additional Insured. It is an administrative update to your Certificate of Insurance only.
How long does it take?
Our team typically processes Additional Insured requests within 1–2 business days. An updated Certificate of Insurance will be emailed to you, which you can then forward to your landlord.
