Who Can Cancel a Policy?

Only the named insured (the primary policyholder) is authorized to cancel a policy. If the policy is under someone else's name, that person must initiate the cancellation directly. No other individual — including close relatives or dependents — can cancel on the named insured's behalf without their explicit consent.

Yes, You Can Cancel at Any Time

APOLLO tenant insurance policies are 12-month contracts, but you can cancel before the end of the term if your circumstances change. Keep in mind that mid-term cancellations are subject to a short-rate cancellation fee.

What Are the Cancellation Fees?

Cancellation fees are calculated using the R7 short-rate cancellation table, which is included in your policy documents. The fee depends on how long your policy has been active:

  • The earlier you cancel, the higher the fee — early cancellations typically amount to 3–4 months of your policy's premium.

  • The longer your policy has been in force, the lower the fee.

  • Taxes and policy fees are fully earned and non-refundable, regardless of when you cancel.

  • To avoid cancellation fees entirely, decline your renewal before it begins rather than cancelling mid-term.

Refunds

After cancellation, any eligible refund will be processed and returned to your original payment method. For annual policies, expect refunds for unused coverage within 7–10 business days. For monthly payment policies, any outstanding balance will be charged to the card on file at the time of cancellation.

How to Cancel Your Policy

The easiest way to cancel is through the APOLLO Customer Portal:

  1. Navigate to "Manage my Policy"

  2. Select "Cancel Policy"

  3. Choose your cancellation date and reason

  4. Review the estimated fee or refund — then confirm

A confirmation will be sent to your registered email address once the cancellation is finalized.

Before You Cancel — Consider Your Alternatives

Many situations that seem to require a cancellation don't actually need one:

  • Moving? Select "I'm moving" in the Customer Portal to update your address instead.

  • Bought a home or condo? You can modify your coverage type through the portal.

  • Changing payment dates or coverage amounts? These can all be done without cancelling.

Can Cancellation Fees Be Waived?

No. Mid-term cancellation fees cannot be waived or reduced under any circumstances. This policy applies universally to ensure fairness and consistency.
