Tenant insurance provides protection for a wide range of risks that a tenant may face, but there are certain things that are typically not covered by this type of insurance. These may include:

  • Damage caused by certain natural disasters: Depending on the policy, damage caused by certain natural disasters such as earthquakes or flooding may not be covered.

  • Damage caused by your own negligence: If your child causes damage to the rental property due to their own negligence, such as leaving the stove on and causing a fire, the tenant insurance policy may not cover the damages.

  • High-value items: The policy may have coverage limits for certain high-value items, such as jewelry or artwork. If the value of these items exceeds the policy limit, you may need to purchase additional coverage.

  • Illegal activities: If damage or loss is caused as a result of illegal activities conducted in the rental unit, the insurance policy may not cover the damages.

It's important to review the insurance policy document carefully to understand exactly what is and isn't covered.
