Will there be a penalty if I cancel my policy?

Cancelling before your term ends may result in a short-rate fee. Here's what to expect and how it's calculated.

Written by Celina De Bruge

Cancelling Before the Policy Start Date

If you cancel before your policy's effective date, a fee of up to $25 will apply. No further penalties are charged in this case.

Cancelling Mid-Term

If you cancel an active policy before the 12-month term is complete, a short-rate cancellation fee applies. This fee is calculated using the R7 cancellation table in your policy documents, and typically amounts to 3–4 months of your policy's premium for early cancellations. The earlier you cancel, the higher the fee.

A few important notes:

  • Taxes and policy fees are fully earned and non-refundable.

  • Any outstanding balance will be charged to the card on file at the time of cancellation.

  • For annual policies, refunds for unused coverage are typically processed within 7–10 business days.

  • Cancellation fees cannot be waived under any circumstances.
